Mavis Grind

Now this is more like it. Firstly, it has an obviously hilarious name. I think some metal band somewhere is missing a trick by not picking this name for themselves. Secondly and more objectively, it is probably the only place where you can see the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea so close together. The information board says you can throw a stone from one to the other, but I think you might need a tennis racket.



If you look at the next picture you can just see the waters of the Atlantic on the left and the waters of the North Sea on the right, which was much more tidal and noisy.



This is the Atlantic. You can still see WW2 concrete tank traps at the edge of the water on the right hand side of the photo.



This is the North Sea side. I had climbed up the hill on the left to take the second picture above.
