Angel of the North

Last time I drove down the A1 past Gateshead, this wasn't here, so I made a point of stopping here. It is a bit bizarre, it's basically at the very edge of where the countryside ends and where the housing estates begin.





It is impressive and Britain needs more of these follies. I was there for about 20 minutes in the light drizzle. Nearly everyone who walked up to it for a photo knocked it to make sure it was still metal (it's made out of steel).



It's a bit too big to get in the picture if you stand on it head on. Although I was particularly impressed with this bunch who appeared out of nowhere to get their photo taken, especially Mario in the middle.
